PHRE 3040 – Resistance Training

This course focuses on learning how to safely increase load in various exercises targeting the basic human movement patterns. In particular, students will learn the: front squat, deadlift, bench press, shoulder press, chin-up, seated row and kettlebell swing.

Target population: Adults (18-65), healthy

Description:
  1. Position a sturdy chair at appropriate distance.
  2. Secure the band using a door anchor or cross technique if attached to rig.
  3. Carefully hand off lat bar to client.
  4. Create to dog lead knots at each end if handles are not available.
  5. Slightly lean back.
  6. Initiate the movement by depressing the shoulder blade and then flexing the elbow while extending the shoulder.
  7. Pull the handle towards your body until the elbows are in line with your torso and then slowly lower the handle back to the starting position under control.  Engage core throughout movement.
  8. Adjust tension by moving farther away or increasing band resistance.
Common Error(s): Arching the upper back | Rounded shoulders | Not engaging core
