Students will discover how to design exercise programs for improving a client’s aerobic and anaerobic capacity. In addition, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts in movement screening, vocational fitness testing (e.g. police and paramedic), circuit training, and instability training.

Description: |
- Client sit and rest in a chair with arm rests or with left arm on table
- Feet should be flat on the floor
- Rest for 5 minutes – this can happen while you build a rapport and ask discovery questions
- Ensure ear pieces are pointing forward in stethoscope
- Place diaphragm of stethoscope on sternum or second intercostal space on left side
- Alternatively, manually palpate radial pulse with index and middle finger on wrist (base of thumb)
- Use a 15-second count
- Start the stopwatch simultaneously with a beat
- Count the first beat as zero (0)
- Multiple value by 4 to get a beat per minute (bpm)
- Record information number on the client information sheet
If client’s RHR is >99 bpm request that the client sits quietly for 5 minutes and repeat the procedure
