PHRE 3043 – Functional Movement and Conditioning

Progressing from Principles of Fitness exercise techniques, Students will learn additional training strategies in order to design exercise programs for client’s wishing to improve anaerobic capacity, movement quality, and occupational requirements (e.g. police and paramedic). Students will be introduced to various training techniques such as: joint mobility, dynamic warm-ups, multi-joint lifting techniques, lunging/stepping patterns, grip strength, advanced cardiovascular interval and tempo training, circuits and more.

Description:
  1. Lying on your side place something under the head to maintain neutral spine posture.
  2. Keep the arm close to the body.  Ideally place a rolled towel between the arm and the body as seen in the picture above to mimic scapular plane.
  3. Using a light DB to start engage the external rotators of the shoulder to lift the DB upwards.  The movement should be slow and controlled.
  4. Make sure the elbow remains in place and the trunk does not change position.  All movement should come from the shoulder rotators.
  5. Shorten range and/or discontinue the movement if pain is felt within the shoulder joint.
Common Error(s): Inappropriate momentum
