Learning Objectives
- Review using the predicted 1-RM calculator to estimate a client’s 1-RM
- Review setting up j-hooks and safety bars on the rig, review spotting the back squat
- Review setting up the bench press; review spotting for the bench press & dumbbell pressing
- Learn how to operate vertec for testing leg power
Lab Tasks
In this week’s lab, you will be required to:
- Station 1: Practice installing and removing safety bars. With a partner, set up j-hooks at the correct squat height. Demonstrate proper back squat spotting.
- Obtain your partner’s predicted 1-RM for either squat, deadlift or leg press
- Station 2: With a partner, set up barbell bench press at the correct height. Demonstrate proper bench press spotting. Switch to dumbbells, practice spotting dumbbell pressing.
- Obtain your partner’s predicted 1-RM for either chest press, shoulder press or chin-up
- Station 3: Learn how to adjust and read the vertec.
- Test your partner’s vertical jump, then calculate their leg power
- Station 4: Conduct a sit and reach test on your partner.
